Cinderella's Glass Slippers

Throw out your Disney video. Cinderella never really wore glass slippers.

When Charles Perrault wrote Cendrillon in 1697 he had her wearing une pantoufle de vair which translates to a slipper made of squirrel fur.

The glass slipper, it is widely believed, was either the results of "poetic license" on the part of the translator or the result of mistaking de vair (squirrel fur) for de verre (glass).
